There are a few options out there for beginners, but after researching, I went with Hatch Embroidery Digitizing Software. Why? What Is Hatch Embroidery Digitizing Software?
Let me start out with the basics – what is Hatch embroidery software? Hatch Embroidery is a user-friendly, feature-rich digitizing software developed by Wilcom, a well-known name in the embroidery industry. The digitizing software is designed for everyone in mind, whether you’re a beginner or already an experienced digitizer. They offer a wide range of tools that make embroidery design creation and customization easy to learn and apply. Hatch is perfect for anyone looking to create custom embroidery designs, convert artwork to stitch files, or tweak pre-existing designs with precision.
Why Choose Hatch Embroidery Digitizing Software?
Now let’s get into the nitty-gritty of why you’re here. Maybe you’re a hobby embroiderer or you’re just starting out on your embroidery business (like me). Or you might even be a seasoned embroiderer looking to make a change. No matter where you fall on the scale, Hatch Embroidery Software will work for you.
Here are some of the main reasons why Hatch Embroidery Software stood out from the rest and why it might be the perfect choice for your embroidery journey.
User-Friendly Interface for ALL Skill Levels
I will start with the feature that first caught my eye: its intuitive user interface. The software layout is clean and well-organized, making it easy to navigate whether you’re a first-time user or a professional. They even have their very own Hatch Academy, their online learning platform filled with tutorials and guides to help you learn the software and put the features to practice. I’m still using Hatch Academy to learn new skills!
- Easy learning curve: New users can start designing with tutorials and help features
- Guided projects and in-app videos: Perfect for beginners to practice digitizing
Powerful Digitizing Tools for Professionals
If you’re serious about embroidery, Hatch includes advanced digitizing tools that give you full control over every element of your designs. When I first started out, I was using other digitizers on Etsy to digitize my designs. This is not only expensive in the long run, but some of the designs came back messy and not how I envisioned them.
Hatch lets you convert vector graphics or hand-drawn designs into stitch-ready embroidery files yourself! You can also adjust stitch types, density, and patterns to ensure that your designs look perfect on any fabric.
- Auto-Digitizing Features: Quickly convert images into embroidery designs
- Manual Digitizing: For precise customization of every stitch
- Object-Based Editing: Change parts of your design without starting from scratch
Compatibility with Multiple Machine Formats
This is super important because there are so many embroidery machines out there to choose from. No matter which embroidery machine you own, Hatch has you covered. The software supports all major embroidery machine formats, including PES, DST, EXP, JEF, and more. I embroider on a Brother SE1900, which uses the PES format, but in the future, it’s nice knowing that if I upgrade my machine, I can continue using Hatch as my digitizing software.
Extensive Design Library and Templates
Hatch includes access to a huge library of built-in embroidery designs and templates, so you don’t always have to start from scratch. I love to use these designs for inspiration or just make my designs simpler. They can be easily modified to fit your style or project needs, perfect for personalizing gifts, creating business logos, or making unique home decor.
- Pre-loaded fonts
- Built-in shapes and design templates
- Inspiration and creative tools for new ideas
Monogramming and Lettering Features
For anyone who loves using monograms and custom lettering, Hatch makes custom monogramming and lettering a breeze. Monograms work great for personalization, logos, and especially for gifts. People LOVE receiving their monograms on pretty much anything!
- TrueType Fonts support
- Adjust kerning, size, and spacing with ease
- Convert text into different stitch styles for added creativity
Free 30-Day Trial and Great Customer Support
If you’re still on the fence about purchasing Hatch, they do offer a free 30-day trial to experience the software before making a commitment. During this trial, you’ll have access to many of the key features to see how Hatch works with your designs. I highly suggest you use the trial to play around, learn some of the key features, and see what works for you.

Cross-Platform Compatible
Hatch Embroidery does work on both Windows and Mac systems, but if you have a Mac, you’ll have to download the Parallels software to run it. For me, as a Mac user, this was the one con of the software. It’s not difficult to install, but it does take some patience to go through the downloads. But after all is said and done, all of the pros simply outweighed this one con for me.
Is Hatch Embroidery Software Right for You?
Investing in Hatch Embroidery Digitizing Software was a game-changer in taking my embroidery skills and business to the next level. Whether you’re a beginner, learning the ropes or a professional, looking to ‘up’ your skills, Hatch offers the tools, features, and flexibility to meet your needs. From auto-digitizing and machine compatibility to a library of designs and customizable pricing options, Hatch ensures that you have everything you need for high-quality embroidery projects. It was definitely right for me, and I highly recommend you try it out for yourself to see if it’s right for you.
